Overall Satisfaction with Encompass from ICE Mortgage Technology (formerly Ellie Mae)

Encompass is and has been the go-to system for loan originators. The system is catered to each company individually and allows originators and operations to manage a borrower's entire loan profile from origination to funding in one system. One of the best features of Encompass, outside of its main function which is mortgages is that you can collect data due to the thousands of data sets it has. This is perfect if you want to quickly gather email addresses, phone numbers, interest rates, loan programs, etc of your active and closed pipeline.

  • Companies input too many data points or overuse
  • New URLA is still hard to get used to, way too many data points are required to be filled out often leading to issues with functions downline like running AUS

  • Can run AUS/LP and pull Credit amongst so many other systems
  • Complete loan/pipeline management from start to finish
  • Positive Impact- Ability to pull old data to reach out to former clients with the click of a button
  • Negative- Too many systems rely on it. If Encompass is down, we can't perform other functions
  • Positive- Easy to learn how to use and works well for loan originators
Is Calyx Point even a thing anymore? I recall using Calyx Point years ago but don't remember it being able to do half of what Encompass is capable of doing. Encompass alone being able to communicate to 3rd party systems is a major time saver something Point was never able to do.

The system is great for loan origination and downline processing. The thing about Encompass is that it's only as good as its user so I can see where new loan originators or folks who are new to the system can have a huge disadvantage over somebody who is experienced with it. Of course, if you have experience with it it's the perfect tool. Compliance is also a big factor that Encompass does take advantage of. It communicates with various 3rd parties like Blend, appraisal management systems, Loanbeam, etc to help gather data where needed and keep files in compliance as needed. I don't know of any other case use for Encompass outside of loan origination.

Our entire mortgage business relies on Encompass from sales to operations, then finally to post ops when a loan is sold to the investors. The system houses non public information and documents securely and for every department's needs compiles with regulatory requirements. Encompass is the start and end of the loan sales cycles and without it we would have a challenging time originating mortgages as there simply is not anything else on the market like it.
5 - The only and true unfortunate aspect of Encompass is that it's only as good as the people who use it, and more importantly as the way in which it's set up. Big organizations sometimes over engineer Encompass within their organization since it's highly customizable to each company. When you do this you need a strong team to help navigate errors and issues that come up when the front end user is not familiar with or can't determine why certain aspects are not functioning. If you don't have a strong team in place whether it's IT or Training to help navigate issues, it's not a well functionating tool, especially when the organization has made it complicated to use. It should be noted this is a function of the organization and not Encompass.

There really is no other product on the market that can do what Encompass does. It has simply monopolized the mortgage industry by doing what it does very well and taking over what Calyx Point failed to do.
