Overall Satisfaction with Epic

Epic is our Electronic Medical Record and encompasses both the clinical and business office functions in our organization. Epic is the most critical application in our environment and has radically improved our ability to offer competent and professional care to our patients. Our use of an EMR has evolved over the years and, it's fair to say that Epic has played a major part of that.

Pros

  • Epic writes all code in-house to ensure interoperability between modules.
  • Epic does not allow their customers to lag behind on older verision.
  • Epic pushes their customers to keep equipment up to date and patched.

Cons

  • Sometimes, Epic doesn't understand that companies run on tight budgets.
  • Epic is not inexpensive; but, because it make providers more efficient, ultimately they're able to treat more patients.
  • Epic's interoperability with CareEverywhere allows providers to give a higher standard of treatment to our patients which encourages more patients to use our facility.
I would hav given it a 10 but, older providers who are unwilling to give up their paper workflows unnecessarily complicate the implementation. When used as intended, Epic is fantastic. Where it get's bogged down is when clinicians insist that things be modified to match what they're used to doing.
None of our previous products are in the list.

Would you buy Epic again?

Yes

Epic is not priced or designed for the small provider offices. However, if current Epic customers are willing, they have the ability to bring those smaller groups onboard through Community Connect. This allowsthe smaller group to have the full benefit of Epic without the hardware and software costs associated with owning Epic.

Epic Implementation

Epic has a regimented implementation process that ensures a successful go-live.
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled - It was necessary to develop a change management process using Sharepoint. User's submit a change request and it must be approved by a group of users before implementation is allowed.
