Overall Satisfaction with F5 BIG-IP

Everything from just plain and simply Load Balancing and application security to complex solutions with F5 APM, manipulating variables and solving problems that not even the app developers manage to fix. Publishing applications using the F5 BIG-IP is so much easier than any other product. And when you reach a tougher scenario, F5 BIG-IP offers the the specialized solutions no other vendor offers.

Pros

  • Specialized configurations using iRules
  • Adding features backend servers do not support.
  • Adding extra security to legacy applications that they cannot solve on their own.

Cons

  • Certificate automation
  • Automation of APM configuration using AS3
  • iRule versioning natively in the GUI
  • Referencing iRules in AS3 directly to Github
  • Without the F5 BIG-IP our application would not exist.
  • Our applications has never been safer
  • We can sleep better at night knowing our F5 BIG-IP is protecting our apps.
It is a good product to use but right now it is lacking the automation of certificates, management of iRules and automation of certain configuration. Also creating an APM policy from scratch with many APM agents take a long time due to slow load times of the GUI and the need to create everything from scratch every time. It's tough to reuse the configuration.
When comparing F5 BIG-IP to these products they do not offer half of the things F5 BIG-IP offers and in some situations I could not even get the app to work. With Azure App Gateway we needed to make specifics redirects to work but we never got it to work. With F5 BIG-IP we got it to work within the hour.

Application delivery of both simple and advanced applications. It's easy to handle certificate management that do require individual certificates to be installed on each backend server, you can just install the certificate on the F5 BIG-IP and use for multiple backends. Also adding WAF is as simple as adding a generic policy and you will cover 80% of the scenarios.
