Overall Satisfaction with Google Cloud SQL

We have migrated most of our self-hosted versions of MySQL and postgres to Cloud SQL as it helps in managing the databases without having to maintain them on VMs. This has freed a lot of time of our devops team and they can spend more time on the overall solution vs the database management.

It is pretty straightforward to use and comes with great interface and CLI options to control it. Engg team can themselves configure a lot of options and the UI is easy to understand. For anything advanced our DevOps team is able to automate things using scripts run using SDKs / CLIs.
It is a drop in replacement of the existing databases so nothing new is to be done to use it in the products. The standard connectors and libraries work along with it. Though only thing we felt could be improved is support of custom extensions for the databases which can help expand the usescases.
Given this is a hosted solution, database a service it helps in removing the effort of maintaining these databases manually. Eases out the pain of upgrading, applying security patches and keeping things running without having to worry about missed changes. The database can be backed up pretty easily and restored when needed so helps in DR too.

It is very well suited for teams who just want to get things done. Teams which don't want to take the headache of running their own databases, this is the go to service. GIven it is a hosted service by Google, it comes with the benefits of automated security updates, uptime management, backups are pretty easy and so are the restores.
