Overall Satisfaction with Google Compute Engine

I use Google Compute Engine to run the virtual machines that power our entire business, from our public apps to our internal databases. It solves the fundamental problems of infrastrucure cost, reliability and scalability

Pros

  • Variablity of machine types
  • Instance provisioning Speed
  • Seamless ecosystem integration
  • Fair billing

Cons

  • Steep learning curve in the UI
  • Cost forecasting and Management
  • Default Resource Quotas and increase process
  • Reduced costs over AWS and Azure
  • Financially Enabled us to host our own Applications
  • Direct Reduction in Monthly Compute Costs
The raw computer power is excellent; our applications feel snappy, pages load almos instantly for our customers and so on. The primary reason it is not a perfect 10 is that the native tools for monitoring individual VM performance can be complex, making it challenging to easily diagnose specific resource bottlenecks without significant configuration.
The platform has been absolutely rock-solid for us. In the last couple of years of running our core business apps on Google Compute Engine, we have not experienced any unplanned downtime.
I actually prefer Azure's UI over Google Compute Engine's , but Google Compute Engine's pricings are way more competitive, which makes it the go-to choice for infrastracture low budget companies such as ours, since our core business is not IT or software development related

Do you think Google Compute Engine delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Google Compute Engine's feature set?

Yes

Did Google Compute Engine live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Google Compute Engine go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Google Compute Engine again?

Yes

Google Compute Engine is an exceptionally powerful and reliable platform that serves as the backbone of our internal application infrastructure. It is well-suited for scalable web Applications and APIs but less for simple low-traffic websites or personal projects. For these, a Vercel would be the go-to solution. It is less appropriate for teams with no cloud experience and with inflexible budget, since forecasting is a little limited in Google Compute Engine.
