Overall Satisfaction with Google Search Console

I use Google Search Console to monitor my client's search performance for monthly SEO retainer clients. It allows me to easily see what queries have been gained or lost. I can also see any issues with indexing and quickly request a page to be indexed. Submitting a sitemap is invaluable. It's also helpful to monitor core web vitals.

Pros

  • Track Queries
  • Track Page Indexing
  • Track Core Web Vitals

Cons

  • Page Indexing Report should default to submitted pages
  • Timeframe Comparison should have more options
  • Longer History
  • Able to successfully determine whether a client will have ROI with organic efforts before investing
  • Often able to see changes and trends but not always able to determine what caused them.
  • Able to plan successfully for website migrations
It's easy to use, but some features are lacking a clear explanation. Somethings don't always match up. For example, the Core Web Vitals often doesn't match what you would see in the Chrome Lighthouse report or the Google Page Speed Insights tool. The tool itself is a little too basic and has to be used alongside other SEO tools and other Google properties such as Analytics.
Google Search Console needs to be used alongside other tools like that ones I mentioned. By itself, it's only able to provide basic information for baseline issues. Thankfully, it does integrate well with a lot of other services and can be useful when linked up to those tools. It's also a good way to get those basic insights about a website for free.

Do you think Google Search Console delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Google Search Console's feature set?

Yes

Did Google Search Console live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Google Search Console go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Google Search Console again?

Yes

It's well suited to get a baseline picture of what's happening organically on Google for an SEO client. It doesn't replace other SEO research tools, but works alongside them well. Great for troubleshooting issues. However, I'm not a fan of the recent changes they made to the Page Indexing report. We receive a lot of irrelevant email notifications regarding the indexing of pages that don't actually exist.
