Overall Satisfaction with IBM API Connect
We will implement the IBM API Connect from the scratch and develop the APIs using manger and where we will publish the APIs to the gateway service and portal site where the end consumers will consume the APIs from a Portal site. IBM API Connect helped to manage APIs from a single consolidated web page the is manager where we can create, modify, publish the APIs and the security features are also very quite better when compared with other technologies, oauth, jwt, openID, basic authentication for APIs will increase the security features.
Pros
- IBM API Connect where you can create APIs through an user friendly interface called API Manager
- IBM API Connect will be integrated with IBM DataPower Gateway for the security reasons which is DMZ component
- IBM API Connect will provide a developer portal site where we can publish the APIs which is user friendly interface where you can socalize the APIs and also end users can consume API from any where on the world
- IBM API Connect will be more flexible to create, publish, socalize, secure with one solution
Cons
- IBM API Connect should have a live testing option feasibility for on-prem vm installation
- Analytics logs, now we can able to export by using custom dates but there should be a funtionality like automation for the logs which means logs per week should be exported and sent to an receipent email automatically
- IBM API Connect Portal customization feasibilites should be increased as there is bug like when we publish the prodcut with visibility as public, when ever we are opening the portal site it the APIs and prodcutis are shouwn without sign in, that is a bug with out sign user must not get the API details like endpoint, oauth endpoint, scope etc..
- In IBM API Connect a contineous sync from DC to DR env expecting to propose in the next release to over come the RTO and RPO timelines
- In IBM API Connect Manger we have experienced that there are some policies which have mandatory fields to be filled, but without filling that also API has been validated and published successfully, but when we have move to the latest version DataPower gateway service haven't validated this missing fields and we got the issue. Still Manager is not validating properly for the APIs if we miss any mandatory fields also
- IBM DataPower gateway will be getting sudden drop down the listening ports which was earlier running, there will not be any n/w issue but still DP will goes down suddenly which impacts huge
- In the latest version of IBM API Connect IBM removed the crunchy db to edb db for management backups which is not functioning as expected and it is little bit new which needs to be stabilzied which will be impact for the Admins to take the backups.
IBM API Connect have more feature compared to other solutions like from one platform we can create APIs on the API Manager, we can publish the APIs to the products/portal server, we can secure the APIs using IBM DataPower Gateway, we can socalize the APIs using developer portal. Here this a one stop solution where we can create, secure, manage, publish, socalize our APIs.
