Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers

We use our IBM Bare Metal Servers for most of our server infrastructure needs, either in-house services, or hosted services for customers, and also prototypes and demos. We develop services for contact centers, so it's important to be able to build a very specific feature and prototype it quickly, mirroring as closely as possible the customer's environment, whether they run Bare Metal, VMs or containers. With our IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers we have been able to provide a solution efficiently.
  • Strong reliability
  • Availability of servers and capacities.
  • Network capacity and pricing.
  • Better hardware options for longer terms.
  • Better pricing for longer terms.
  • Better upgrade incentives to move to newer hardware.
  • It's difficult to measure the positive sales impact of having a prototype ready quickly, available, and running strongly.
  • It's great to have a known fixed cost per month.
As we run contact center applications, it is very important to have a known, dedicated, and dependable server and network capacity. And if we need more or less, it is quick enough (for our projects) to change things. And the flexibility to run things on VM or Bare-metal allows us to host anything we need, which is hardly the case with cloud solutions such as AWS. Sometimes a customer would need a specific SD-WAN solution or a specific security software with specific networking or storage needs, and that is just not possible on AWS or similar services.
Rapid provisioning time has been a great fit for our projects. We've had a few instances where a new hardware part was not available on the data center we needed it, and it took more than four hours, but it has worked great for our needs in general. It's definitely good to know we can take on a new project very quickly!
We've also had good success with Mac colocation services like MacStadium, being cheaper with unlimited networking, quite dependable and also very flexible when used with VMware, but with IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers we have a lot more options on data center locations, fantastic network routing between data centers and any server capacity I would need. With regards to Azure, AWS, etc., those models just don't work for our projects, too many restrictions on networking and other details. IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers are just easier.
  • IBM Cloud Virtual Servers
We haven't really used much of the other IBM Cloud products yet, we like to manage all we can ourselves. But it's good to know we can have all that portfolio any time we need. Coming from the Softlayer days, this has given me the confidence that we are hosting our services with a strong provider.
IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers are well suited for scenarios where you need good flexibility, strong dependability, and sensible network bandwidth costs. Wouldn't be a great fit for a very elastic service.
