Overall Satisfaction with IBM Cloud Virtual Servers

We are currently managing Power (IBMi) servers for our customers.
We wanted to test Power Virtual Servers as a new hosting solution.
  • Powerful servers, IBMi is running fine.
  • Easy deployment, scalability.
  • Instances available in 2 or more locations.
  • Cloud portal need some time to adapt, especially about response time.
  • Some documentation lacks details.
  • (Power instances only) Network is too complicated and expensive.
  • Migration of existing IBMi partition can be really painful.
  • Currently evaluating the ROI.
With on-premise offers, we have no choice but double the cost.
Thanks to the Cloud, we could easily adapt to the workload (not tested so far).
IBM Power offer is not unique, but far ahead (capacity, integration).
And we currently are Business Partners.
  • IBM Cloud Object Storage
  • IBM Cloud Direct Link
Lower cost, for sure.
But anyway these additional products are mandatory ...
It could fit some of our customers very well, as they can be less expensive than on-premise and easy to manage.
So it's ok for basic use, in example as data warehouse (DB2).
But some of our customers need specific hardware or networking, so we may not be able to user Cloud servers.
For example, some have to keep a copy on tape by themselves, for legal concerns.
