Overall Satisfaction with IBM NS1 Connect

In my organization, IBM NS1 Connect is used in managing DNS for the applications within ServiceNow. Low latency and smarter traffic routing are one of its key features that impress me. It addresses the automation challenges that we come across when working with tools like SNOW and need reliable service delivery across all the environments.

Pros

Cons

  • Learning materials depicting flows that can help users who are completely new to networking
  • Pricing can be more transparent
  • I feel UI is a bit complex to adapt, especially for new users, it should be made more intuitive
  • Controlled downtime/Reduced downtime
  • Time saving through automation
  • Enhanced visibility
As stated earlier, it has an excellent traffic management system. Eg. Allowing route traffic based on location, latency etc. The ability to automate DNS management is again a key feature. The metrics or real time monitoring is probably the most powerful feature I have witnessed. The feature that in case of failovers, healthy endpoints are redirected automatically is again an intelligent aspect of the product.
It has definitely given the organizations or people using the service more control and flexibility in managing DNS at a global scale which was almost impossible before. Plus, it has made the process more efficient at a reasonable cost saving time, effort and money. Once again, the smart traffic routing is the best in the business.
It's definitely because of automation capabilities and flexibility that it offers. It also offers much more control over how traffic is routed when compared with Google Cloud DNS. The advance features are once again missing in Google Cloud DNS when compared with IBM NS1 Connect. The operational efficiency is also great when compared with its competitors.

It is very well suited for applications where the availability for applications are totally crucial and downtime affects business a big time. It also helps when traffic is to be routed across multiple regions. Where it might not be the best fit is probably small scale environments or teams that have very less networking experience as the they might face complexities because of the vast amount of features of IBM NS1 Connect.
