Overall Satisfaction with IBM Power

It is used for Oracle databases and Sterling Integrator applications.
  • Faster
  • Redudant
  • Reliable
  • Efficient
  • There are certain component which are not redundant
  • Had an issue with Fiber Channel Adapter and had to replace.
  • Hardware support with IBM is sometimes problematic.
  • We were able to consolidate multiple power servers in a single.
  • Easy to setup.
  • Backward compatibility.
We have evaluated Exadata for Oracle. However, Exadata's performance was comparatively lower than IBM Power. The migrating workload from AIX to Linux was cumbersome. Hence, we decided to use the IBM Power Server. Other technologies we considered were Hyperflex. Intel-based technologies are not recommended for migrating from AIX and Oracle. So we narrowed it down to IBM P9

Would you buy IBM Power servers again?

Yes

It is good for a large enterprise-wide workload. Reliable for production servers. Can work as a cluster. Compatible with IBM System technologies and applications. For certain applications, this will be overkill. We have utilized it for our Oracle Database Servers. This gives good performance for Oracle databases and related applications. Can be utilized for Linux and AS400 too.
