Overall Satisfaction with IBM Power

We were doing a pilot program to test the effectiveness of our application running on SAP HANA and needed a server that could handle a lot of memory. We selected the IBM Power System S924 because it could handle 4 TB of memory which allowed us to keep our entire database in memory. This is just for a pilot program at this time.
  • In memory caching
  • Reliability and 24x7
  • Performance
  • I/O throughput
  • Improve price
  • Improve architecture to allow 4 sockets instead of 1 or 2.
  • Will improve our ROI over existing architecture.
  • Improved performance greatly.
  • Better customer experience.
The enterprise is wanting to retire the SPARC servers. We wanted to get something far less expensive that could handle more memory. The S924 holds up to 4 TB of memory using standard DIMM sockets which helps keep the cost down. This memory allows us to keep the entire DB cached.

Do you think IBM Power servers delivers good value for the price?

Are you happy with IBM Power servers's feature set?

Yes

Did IBM Power servers live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of IBM Power servers go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy IBM Power servers again?

Yes

This device/server is great for running high-performance workloads. We are running HANA on it and the combination of HANA and IBM PowerSystem S924 crushes our workload. We have seen jobs run 1,000X (not 1,000 percent) faster. Jobs that we couldn't finish in our existing Sybase ASE / Sun Solaris environment complete in seconds. This is well suited for highly computational and data-intensive applications. Load the box up with memory and keep it all in a cache. You will be amazed at the performance.
