Overall Satisfaction with IBM POWER9 Servers
We have refreshed older POWER systems into the new POWER9 Server being used today. It supports multiple business units within the company from the warehouse, inventory, point of sale, finance, and other functions. The end-users are across the country with some off shore. POWER9 is a fantastic platform, quick, easily manageable and can run most third-party software as well as the majority of languages available today.
- The platform is very customizable from internal or external storage. Memory and processor cores can be increased easily or additional ones can be checked out and used as required for high peak usage times such as Month-end /Year End Processing or during peak seasons of the business year.
- Multiple backup options are available. Many HA / DR options are available to satisfy the business requirements.
- Easily interfaces to many other platforms.
- Software vendors have a huge selection of toolsets available for this platform.
- This platform has gone through multiple software and hardware releases over the last thirty years, with each being significantly faster and having more offerings than the previous version. That said, there are not any areas on this platform which would satisfy this question.
- There are several large user groups which supply user requests to IBM for consideration to be either engineered into the hardware or added to the O/S software.
- As these platforms are rock solid, the ROI is very high as they will run for a lifetime.
- Hardware and Software support is quick and excellent thus preserving the investment of its useful life.
- The abundance of software applications available and multiple language support thus extends the ROI on this platform as one could run multiple languages ie: O/S400, AIX on multiple partitions opening up a wide set of possibilities.
The POWER9 Server has many advantages over other platforms. First, you can have Main Frame Power and functionality without having the requirements of a huge support staff. This platform maybe managed by a several individuals. Second, the ability to grow this platform, adding resources as you grow, is convenient. Third, there is a huge selection of software from both IBM and other vendors to help you support the platform for backups, customized reporting, or most any type of third-party applications which you may want to operate on this environment. The depth of support from both IBM and from a huge technical users group will provide another avenue of information not provided by many of the other platform vendors.
