Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)

Although I've used Kofax Power PDF for about a year, I've used it for many years previously under the Nuance brand. Much of my work involves contracts and I especially like the MS Word conversion facility when we only have contracts in PDF form that need to be modified. That I'm still using it says a lot. I like its flexibility and the ability to manage PDFs in terms of manipulating files. Although I've tried a few other similar products, I have always found them to be inferior to the Power PDF product for one reason or another. I find that upgrading to new versions of the product when they are released to be advantageous because the functional enhancements are always significant. I intend to keep using the product.
  • Speed - PDF files open quickly and the screen displays are well thought out.
  • The MS Word conversion feature when only the PDF is available and not the MS Word doc file.
  • Value - the product is well worth the cost.
  • I've only needed support a few times but I've always been pleased with the support personnel in answering questions and resolving issues. A product with inferior support is not a good product.
  • The product has so much functionality that it can be hard for a new user to navigate. With a little experience, though, using the product is easy.
  • When converting PDF's to MS Word doc files, the Word file usually needs some corrections but this has gotten better over the years.
  • Although the help facility has gotten much better over the years, illustrative videos would be a good improvement.
  • After having tried a few similar products, Power PDF has resulted in superior time and productivity savings.
  • ROI? The product offers good value for the money.
  • The availability of support and an improved Help facility has decreased frustration levels and improved the user experience.
There is a learning curve for new users to be sure. As an experienced user of the Nuance product for more years than I care to remember, though, I feel it's easier now for new users to learn the product than it used to be. The Help facility has greatly improved over the years.
I've tried some other products not listed in the drop-down but have always found Power PDF to be the best combination of value and functionality. At one point I tried the full Adobe Acrobat product but Power PDF is just as functional for all intents and purposes and it costs much less.
When I tried to install Kofax Power PDF for the first time, I ran into problems that I could not get around. I suspect this was caused by the earlier versions of the Nuance products which were installed , including PaperPort, on my machine. I called Kofax support and they quickly helped me complete the installation. BTW, I highly recommend the new Kofax version of PaperPort.

1. Editing PDF files.
2. Merging PDF files.
3. Bookmarks.
4. Page manipulation.
5. Stamps.
6. Security features.
I have always thought that Power PDF is a helpful, best in class product. It is helpful in any situation where one has to manipulate PDF files. Although as I stated, the MS Convert facility is a useful feature, sometimes long documents especially when they are scanned in depending on quality can require a bit of work to correct.
