An improvement over previous Nuance versions
Software Version
Power PDF Advanced
Overall Satisfaction with Kofax Power PDF (formerly Nuance)
We use it to extend usability life of our Fujitsu $1000+ scanners whose aging drivers can be a problem with updated document management systems. We are a small consulting company and need software which is easily adapted for our user tasks without major training.
Pros
- Succeeds in recognizing older scanners which prior updates of similar Nuance and Scansoft scanning and conversion software failed. This time Kofax got it right.
- We have used Kofax imaging software for years and have had excellent results.
- Installation was easy and error-free on Windows 10, unlike previous versions of this software.
Cons
- Performance is relatively slow on mid stream i5 and i7 business desktops all with 8 GB RAM and always updated OS. Especially during the conversion stage after scanning a document. Would like it streamlined and sped up!
- Biggest solved issue: headache free install and configuration compared to earlier version of this and other ScanSoft and Nuance software packages which we've used for years.
- Allows us to keep using relatively expensive (to us!) older - but very usable - mid level Fujitsu scanners where other software required us to obtain 3rd party drivers to keep up with operating systems.
- Does what we need without spending the extra money for Adobe products which - although they may have some better specific bells and whistles - we really don't need for normal daily business tasks.
Improved interface over previous Nuance editions. Not a major improvement, but very noticeable. Still 'feels' like it was designed by and for geeky users. Suggest Kofax focus on developing a smoother more common sense procedural flow, working with a variety of professional office users from support staff to upper level professionals who want a scanner on their destop for occasional use, in addition to support staff who need the functionality consistently through their work days.
Was really tired of the dated Nuance versions we were using and considered going all Adobe. Users found Adobe versions unnecessary and our budget and clients appreciate the lower cost.
