Overall Satisfaction with Linode

I've used Linode for virtual private servers for over a decade. They have been consistent, reliable, affordable, and more effective than I could hope. Currently, my Linode VPSs serve as both the frontend webservers and backend database servers for every website I host. Recently I also deployed Linode object storage to manage backups and large object delivery, and it was a very low-effort move from my previous AWS S3 implementation.
  • Their virtual private servers are fast and easy to deploy and manage.
  • DNS integration is a really welcome bonus.
  • Object storage is easy to implement and deploy.
  • Better API access to object storage public URLs.
  • Linode object storage has cut my object storage costs by about 10%.
Linode offers a fairly specialized subset of cloud services, which makes the dashboard interface a million times easier to use than both GCP and AWS. In addition, their VPS offerings give you a broader range of control with (thankfully) fewer options. This makes it easier to calculate budget and results in fewer surprises when your bill comes around.
One great thing about Linode is that I haven't had to use support very often. When I have needed to use Linode support, it's been for pretty obscure IT issues. They have always stepped up when they are capable, or have been honest when it's a problem that's beyond all of us. I appreciate that, and I know I can count on them to provide honest help.
I switched from bare metal to Linode, so it is difficult to calculate. Like any cloud migration, the biggest savings has been time. I no longer have to worry about taking care of machines in a data center, which is a huge time and money saver. Their cloud infrastructure allows me to seamlessly run applications and services that make my small business feel like one of the heavy hitters, but for a very affordable price. Frankly, I couldn't run my business without them.
Running websites, particularly ecommerce websites, means that reliability is at the core of your business. Every minute of downtime costs money. Like I said earlier, I have been with Linode for at least a decade, and I can remember the few times that Linode downtime has caused me worry -- they are rare. I find them very reliable.

As a fairly small business owner, Linode is my cloud service provider of choice for any deployment that requires long-running virtual private servers. They are an excellent alternative to the big-name monolithic cloud service providers like GCP and AWS, and frankly, Linode is friendly and personable. It feels like they are always ready to support even their smallest customers.

Using Linode

1 - I'm a one-human operation, so 100% of the people in my organization use Linode. But honestly, it is perfect for a self-employed tech person who needs to run a few VPSs and have a couple of other cloud services. It's particularly nice because of the flexibility and power it gives you.
1 - General knowledge of cloud services is very helpful when it comes to using Linode, especially for things like the object storage. Other services, such as the nameservers and virtual servers, require standard network administration and system administration knowledge. You will want to understand DNS and Linux system administration, in other words.

I've been using Linode for over a decade and do not foresee undergoing the effort to move to another cloud host. Everything has been running smoothly and reliably. Linode communicates clearly when upgrades or downtime are needed, and that is pretty rare. They continue to deliver great value for the price and they seem to care about how their customers are doing.
