Overall Satisfaction with Linode

We are a web design and development company. We use Linode to deploy and host customer websites in the cloud. We use their VPS and storage solutions to provide our clients with a solid and reliable foundation. Linode is not the fastest or slowest solution out there but they are reliable and predictable, which is what you want from an upstream provider. Been a loyal customer since 2009.

Linode ultimately has better value for money. Not as many features/services as AWS but they do cloud computing very well. Managed databases are something we’d like to see and it’s on Linode’s roadmap. AWS nickels and dimes you for everything. We’ve also considered UpCloud, which has better compute but poorer network, and Digital Ocean which is trying to be an AWS competitor but slow compute compared to Linode. Ultimately we keep using Linode because of the price, performance, and customer service.
Linode offered fast and helpful support when we’ve needed it (which is usually pretty rare because Linode is reliable). Even when they couldn’t directly solve the problem, they pointed me in the right places to diagnose, which is what you what with an unmanaged solution. They also try to keep their help guides up to date. Good documentation is essential to a good user experience.
They offer fantastic value for money. We’re more of a software company than hardware, so having to buy servers, set them up, and maintain them is not something we need to do. Linode provides the infrastructure and we set up the servers how we want. I’ve been using them personally and professionally since 2009, back when 384 MB instances were common.
Linode is very reliable. Usually when stuff goes down, it’s our fault or outside Linode’s control (like a fiber cut). As a company that deals with a lot of e-commerce clients, uptime is essential, otherwise they lose sales. Linode provides all the tools needed for a high-availability setup but even something as simple as a single node and a hot spare backup can be enough; Linode is very reliable.

Do you think Akamai Cloud Computing delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Akamai Cloud Computing's feature set?

Yes

Did Akamai Cloud Computing live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Akamai Cloud Computing go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Akamai Cloud Computing again?

Yes

It excels at small/medium business needs, maybe less so for enterprise use. Though from what I’ve used, the managed Kubernetes offering is pretty strong. Linode doesn’t offer everything like AWS or even similar competitors like Digital Ocean, but what they do offer is strong. We especially like that in most cases the pricing is very predictable. Very generous bandwidth.
