Overall Satisfaction with M‑Files

M-Files is used for:
  • Metadata management in sales, project deliveries, and services.
  • Document management.
  • Service task management.

Pros

  • Combines document and metadata management well in one package.
  • Flexible and easy to configure.
  • Good support for the use over Internet, no VPN connection needed.
  • Good data replication tools over data vaults.

Cons

  • Opening of a metadata card is a bit too slow on average.
  • Offline use features are too limited.
  • Mobile phone client user interface needs improvement.
  • There are still many things to improve in the everyday use in M-Files client.
  • Efficiency improvements.
  • ERP system
  • PDM system
  • Customer portal
  • Active directory
Integrations are one strength of M-Files. Interfaces are well planned and implemented. Easier than average to implement.
M-Files is suitable for many kinds of document management purposes and can also support processes in workflows and metadata management as a part of other IT tools.

I would not use M-Files for "heavy-duty" process data management (e.g. ERP).
