Overall Satisfaction with Marketo

Marketo is currently used for our onboarding drip, no-use drips, first conference follow-up survey, and other automated programs along with our monthly engagement email blasts. We have a suite of brands/products. At the moment, Marketo is set up for one of 6 brands. The objective of Marketo for this instance is to improve our conversion rate and reduce our churn by regularly communicating with our customers via email communications.

Pros

  • Automation programs are really flexible and customizable.
  • Detailed reporting on program performance and end-to-end success evaluation.

Cons

  • There have been A LOT of technical issues that we've run into. Syncing can be slow and delayed, which impacts the timing of the automation.
  • List refreshes are often frozen, delaying work activities.
  • Support has been a challenge to work with.
  • Upsell
  • Cross-Sell
  • Customer Service
  • Lead Management
  • Improve conversion and increase premium revenue
  • Reduce churn
We were looking for something more robust than Pardot, but not quite as heavy as Eloqua. Marketo appeared to be a good compromise. In addition, we were hoping to use Marketo to some extent as a CRM.

We didn't have a very good experience at all. Often we were worried about sending out campaigns to our customer base using Marketo in anticipation that there would be some sort of issue that would impact the results. Whether customers were going to reach landing pages, receive emails, lists were not refreshed in time and included contacts we'd prefer to exclude, are a few of the challenges we ran into.

In addition, a single instance of the platform could only address a single domain, so our other brands were out of luck using the platform, unless we were ok with including links in our emails and our landing pages, that had a different branded domain, which could cause a lot of confusion among our customers. So we were very limited with its use.

Perhaps the platform is better suited for smaller list sizes and companies with a single product or brand.
