Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used Matillion for common ETL tasks. It has allowed us to handle large volumes of data and aggregate them for reporting purposes. We wanted an automated lights out solution and it did just the job. It was used on an on demand basis which kept the cost down too.

There is a generic failure alert option but not one for success
The process behind creating and unpacking shares jobs has a clunky UX
Pulling out the name of a pipeline to a slack webhook seems odd as it wants to only give the name of the component not the pipeline

It has definitely helped speed process up

Its not too difficult to learn and there is a good knowledge base available

Usability

There is a lot of information available online so when you go looking you can find articles that provide answers. However in a number of instances a better UX might have meant not needing to go looking for those answers. The shared jobs feature would be a good example of this.

Time to Value

I wasnt involved with tht implementation however i was able to learn how to fix issues and make changes within a day or two of exposure to the system. However i imagine this could have been longer if the pipelines had been more complex or we had lots more of them. I feel our usage probably wasnt massive.

Scalability

It seems to be able to connect to all the major players in the market.

Likelihood to Recommend

It isbsuited to low or no code environments where you are linking multiple data sources or systems together and want to leverage automation. Especially small teams where resouce is tight and a pool of developers arent available.
It is difficult to justify if you are not required to make changes and are using large scale systems like AWS and have developer resource available as its probably cheaper and easier to do the ETL in glue jobs and make the developers responsible.
