Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have a data and analytics team at the tech company. We're building a data warehouse/datamarts on Snowflake to produce business-critical reports for our clients. We use Matillion as an ETL tool and have some Matillion jobs to transform the source data into a presentable target for our logical data model.

poor git integration.
Having some bugs (eg, the Table creation component doesn't support the CURRENT_DATE() function).

Usability

When new developers join the team, their adaptation process becomes very fast. Git integration provides a clear project environment without the need for too much documentation. However, it needs to be improved a little more; for example, the screens used to manage conflicts that occur, especially in environments where more than one developer works, are not very useful.

Time to Value

If you have some experience with ETL development, you can understand Matillion jobs logic easily even without reading a lot of documentation. My adaptation period was about one week. For example, after one week, I was able to create some iteration objects and use Grid variables as well.

Scalability

We're using Matillion on EC2 instances, and we have about 20 projects for our clients in the same instance. Sometimes, we're struggling to manage schedules for all projects because thread management is not visible, and we can't see the process at the instance level.

Alternatives Considered

SQL Server Integration Services, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Apache Airflow and AWS Glue

The Matillion selection was not my decision. But I think it's a good enough choice. It is especially valuable that the team can learn Matillion easily and that the project can be understood by the entire team with the visual environment instead of complex ETLs.

Likelihood to Recommend

Matillion is very easy to learn and develop quickly. It also allows complex orchestration on a visual platform. It has many ready-made components, and it is easy to develop new user components. Although Git integration needs some further development, it enables teamwork in the same project with the "Versions."
