Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Power BI Embedded

We use Microsoft Power BI Embedded as an integral part of our reporting and dashboarding. Many Microsoft Power BI Embedded object are embedded throughout normal course of menus in our ERP system. We use custom build dashboard with lots of filter options to present a wide range of sales and financial information including trends to a large audience of managers, sales, and finance professionals.

Pros

  • Sales Reporting w/YoY analysis
  • Incident response tracking and KPI's
  • Inventory availability and reporting
  • Personnel task tracking

Cons

  • More flexibility to do formatted, pixel perfect reporting
  • better Row level reporting
  • UI improvements for end user ease of use.
  • It's been positive. Opening reporting paths that were not available.
  • It allows for consistent reporting among managers from different areas.
  • It provides a single source of truth for reporting to our clients, vendors and in internal reviews.
It's easy to use for what is presented in the reports that have been developed and presented. It's not so easy to customize those reports, "make them your own" and save them for later reuse.
Microsoft Power BI Embedded is more cost effective and easier to deploy to the masses but lacks the functionality and sophistication of the IBM products. In general, it gives many more people access to valuable information, albeit with less flexibility, that would be otherwise possible. Something valuable for the masses is better that excellent for a few in my opinion.

Do you think Microsoft Power BI Embedded delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Microsoft Power BI Embedded's feature set?

No

Did Microsoft Power BI Embedded live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Microsoft Power BI Embedded go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Microsoft Power BI Embedded again?

Yes

It works great when there is a well developed and delivered artifact with sufficient flexibility built into the design. It becomes more difficult to work with as an end user if that flexibility is no inherent. The UI does not really lend itself to alternation of format or content. This limits the usefulness in some cases.

Evaluating Microsoft Power BI Embedded and Competitors

Yes - Tableau. It was costly and now as flexible an offering as Microsoft Power BI Embedded. We are a Microsoft based organization and going with Microsoft Power BI Embedded fit well into our overall architecture, deployment and licensing model.
  • Cloud Solutions
  • Scalability
  • Integration with Other Systems
Scalability especially concerning deployment. We are able to embed artifacts through our ERP system menus and make them available to a large audience of users. This is not only efficient but cost effective.
I think we might do some work on rearchitecting some of the backend data sources before we began development of the front end but in terms of selection or strategy, we would likely have made the same selection.
