Powerpoint with Guard Rails for Non Power USers
Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Powerpoint Online
Lots of my clients use Microsoft Powerpoint Online for ways to collaborate together, they like that they can link out to it from box.com, and do work right in the browser. The system of working within the company amongst a team is a nice to have, but there are some limitations in Microsoft Powerpoint Online that just seem to work better on the desktop version. For sharing copies, and commenting though, Microsoft Powerpoint Online is a great tool in marking up revisions and doing minor edits.
Pros
- Marking up for edits is easy and quickly accessible for team members
- Minor updates are easily completed, and the text tool has all any regular user may need
- Tools that 'check accessibility' are in a default ribbon, something that is buried in the 'review' tab on desktop
- Icons for the animations are clean and accessible
Cons
- Master Slides are no-where to be seen
- Font issues seem to arise occasionally
- Not confident that extensions such as bright slide exist for online verisons
- More people, including outside contractors, can easily access the content and update it...saves time in the simple work...especially for affiliate team members in a learning and dev company.
- Limits how many ways a branded PowerPoint might be broken by the non-designers, no access to the master pages means they are locked into the branded template.
- Worthwhile to still have a designer / accessibility expert review and tweak what's necessary to make the PowerPoint work for all viewers.
- Immediate access to the accessibility tab is a nice and modern touch for organizations that aim to make that a priority.
All of the above have their strengths, Canva has integrated AI tools that can help develop a presentation quickly. Google Slides works much like Microsoft Powerpoint Online and can bring in a deck natively to convert. You can also do some more in Slides as far as collaborating with others, and still have a master deck. Acrobat is a fallback when having trouble with a Microsoft Powerpoint Online over fonts/animations, we will use a pdf to present from.
