Overall Satisfaction with MS SharePoint / SQL

MS SharePoint/SQL is being across our organization as a intranet to connect our business units and the leaders with their employees. We use the message board to relay information, and department pages to allow employees access to information about their business unit.
  • Relays information
  • Stores important MS documents
  • Enterprise organization for department executives
  • Editing pages could be more user friendly.
  • Attach departments to documents, like file sharing.
  • Connect with LinkedIn and Twitter
Its integration with MS products is a plus. SharePoint does well as an information hub because it allows users access to an array of tools that can be used to manage documents, files, workbooks, etc... while allowing some control and security with the use of permissions and access. Because it is a Microsoft product the learning curve is relative small with new users.
The reception to SharePoint has been positive. People seem to like the functionality it provides each department. It allows users that have the correct access a large amount of editing capabilities to give them the freedom to construct and implement tools within their SharePoint page that other products do not.
If a company is looking for a tool that provides enterprise communication through the web, MS SharePoint is great to have. Uploading files also acts as a file storage that allows people to access documents for quick information relay.

Using MS SharePoint / SQL

100 - Anybody from IT to Human Resources to Business Intelligence uses SharePoint as a way to relay information and communicate with employees.
2 - Navigation of permissions and access is key so someone will have to know how that environment looks. Also, if editing of pages is to be left to one person or team they will have to know how to edit within SharePoint. Any functionality within SharePoint will need to involve some minor programming so a SQL expert would not hurt to have either.

  • Communication
  • Content Storage
  • Company message board
  • Personal profiles
  • Graphical representations of company metrics
