Overall Satisfaction with Nextcloud
We previously used Nextcloud as a front-end for an external file shares (Windows SMB) before migrating to a full OneDrive and SharePoint solution in order to provide web-based access to files and folders in our file shares. This allowed us to support access to those files and folders by users outside of the office or those inside the office using Chrome, Android, iOS and other devices.
- Very intuitive interface.
- Superb synchronization agent.
- Integration with AD/LDAP, external file sources, and other tools is top-notch.
- Wide variety of "apps" (plugins).
- Large PHP single-page layout can be unwieldy.
- It allowed us access to our files from any device over the internet.
- It helped manage and organize our file sharing with third parties.
- It provided a secure wrapper for accessing files.
As an offshoot (fork) of ownCloud, Nextcloud has a slightly better feature set and more integrations. Both products perform their core function of web-based file access admirably, but Nextcloud has gone above and beyond with the recent release of Hub in version 21. That it is now almost a drop-in replacement for Zoom and other web-based conference tools amazed me. We only keep the other tools because of the dial-in capability that WebRTC based tools like Hub do not have.
