Overall Satisfaction with Notepad++
As a free, open-source product, Notepad++ is being used on an ad-hoc basis. There is a large number of IT users who rely on Notepad++ for their daily use. It allows us to easily resolve issues with EDI files and identify problems with files sent or received. It is also excellent for reformatting files or performing advanced find and replace functions with its native regex capabilities.
- Regex
- File encoding
- Viewing special/hidden characters
- Full dark mode
- Integration with source control would be helpful
- Built-in compare (although available as an add-in)
- File encoding capabilities
- Find and replace capabilities
- Special character visibility
- Saved hours with being able to use regex for find and replace
- Quickly troubleshoot file encoding issues
- Quick and easy to reformat file types
I prefer Notepad++ to both UltraEdit and VSCode. The fact that it is freely available gives it a leg up on UltraEdit, and the feature set is at least comparable and in some ways better. VSCode is more useful if you are using your text editor to code and want to tie into source control. However, Notepad++ is what I reach for 90% of the time, as I am usually performing one-offs.
