Overall Satisfaction with Optimizely Content Management System

We host our university web site for prospective students and there families, alumni, and other audiences. This helps us to recruit students and raise awareness of our brand and offerings.

We need a platform that empowers our editors to compose and manage a wide variety of content for varied audiences. Support for smart search, personalization, and languages are also key.

Pros

  • Flexibility / extensibility.
  • Content governance
  • Performance

Cons

  • Better out of the box Admin for graph
  • I struggle sometimes to find documentation and code examples.
  • Since switching to CMS, editors require very little training.
  • We’ve had high uptime
  • We can customize for nearly anything we need as long as we have the resources or skillset on our side.
We use Commerce with our CMS implementation to allow a segment of our visitors to enroll in certificate programs. We are also starting to use ODP to help build visitor groups for use in CMS to personalize content.
Having multiple products has allowed us to learn and manage one platform for multiple purposes. We anticipate that when our personalization program is launched, we will see improved engagement with prospective students and drive increased enrollment.
Our timeline from signing a contract with a partner through launch was about 15 months. This was a 100% redesign of a previous site, also built with Opti /epi CMS.

Once the platform was sufficiently built, we began creating content; about 3 months before go live.

There was a lot of work for everyone, but once we understood our design, building content was very easy.
A lot of this depends upon how CMS is implemented, but the platform offers a lot of power and allows us to determine how much or little we want to use.

Yes

Did Optimizely Content Management System live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Optimizely Content Management System go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Optimizely Content Management System again?

Yes

Once implemented, if done well, it's really easy to compose and manage content. As a developer and the person primarily responsible for the platform, CMS has been so reliable that I rarely have any sort of issues to deal with other than helping some of our editors with user errors .

I just have very little to worry about once we’re out of our initial stabilization period.
