Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Dyn Managed DNS

It is being used across the organization on a POC basis. Currently, we don't use it for addressing any critical business problem.

Pros

  • It does detect the ISP change really fast.
  • Record change is very fast, usually within 15 seconds.
  • User interface is very easy to use.

Cons

  • Can't detect with an ISP that is having packet issues, so the firm thinks it should be failing over and yells at us, but really the ISP hasn't gone down so it wouldn't flip over. It would be nice if it had a way to set packet loss % before it would switch.
  • It is an excellent platform for managing a large number of sites over a large number of zones. Probably less appropriate for a smaller enterprise space.
For quick setup of multiple data centers as your service "origins". It is easy to direct users to the closest location of your servers using traffic director and always keep the service up using using active failover.
We have never had any issues with accounts randomly going down.
Our company uses Oracle to host client email accounts and Oracle fulfills that need flawlessly.
It is used in our department to facilitate access to our customers' firewalls and routers using DDNS instead of requiring a static IP from the ISP. It gives us an excellent centralized location for DNS configuration and allows us to quickly and efficiently update, add, or delete locations as necessary.

Hi, I'm Michael Taylor and am a Community Manager at Oracle Dyn. Thank you for your feedback! I'm glad to see your experience has been such a positive one, and that it has met your needs and expectations. Regarding packet loss, while it is not something trackable with Dyn services, it might be possible to configure an API call on the network side to notify you when a certain amount of packets are lost so that you can manually failover via Dyn services. Please note with would be done with your own api call to monitor pack loss when trying to ping that ip, not with an existing Dyn api.
