Overall Satisfaction with Oracle eBusiness Suite

The Oracle eBusiness Suite is used across many departments in our organization in the United States and Canada. We use many different modules of the application including Order Management, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Inventory, Supply Chain Management, Shipping, etc. It easily integrates with many other Oracle applications that we use as well such as SOA Suite, ATG Commerce, and Agile PLM.
  • I have a lot of experience using the Order Management module, and it can be as simple or complex as you need. There are workflows that can be customized too.
  • There are many integrations possible with other applications.
  • The more modules in the eBusiness Suite that you use, the more functionality you can expect out of it because it is designed for all of the moving parts to work together seamlessly.
  • The cost of implementing the eBusiness Suite can be substantial, and licensing / maintenance are on-going expenses which are not cheap either.
  • Finding support staff who are knowledgeable is a challenge. There are so many moving parts of the eBusiness Suite that support personnel tend to have "specialties" within the application (i.e. Order Management or Receivables). And because of simple principle of supply and demand, worthwhile support people and companies demand a premium.
  • Oracle patching and upgrades are very frequent which can be seen as good or bad, but it is time consuming to have to test so often.
  • The eBusiness Suite makes it easier for various departments to work together.
  • Our IT department is lucky enough to have several people well-versed in the eBusiness Suite who can adequately support the product.
  • Certain areas within the application can be overwhelming and seem unnecessarily complex to users who are not familiar with ERP systems.
Oracle ERP Cloud is the direction that a lot of companies are heading. Oracle and most other big software companies are pushing everyone to move to the cloud. This is essentially Oracle's cloud counterpart to their on-premise eBusiness Suite. The ERP Cloud product is still in its young stages and has some maturing to do. But eventually it may become a viable alternative for a lot of companies with benefits such as reduced hardware costs and simpler maintenance.
I would say the the eBusiness Suite is much more suited for large organizations. Although it can certainly be used by smaller companies, it would be overkill. Small companies can use business management software with a much smaller footprint and price tag.

If your company does not have a substantial budget available for on-going support and license fees, you should probably look elsewhere.

Using Oracle eBusiness Suite

250 - The users within our business span a variety of departments. We primarily use the Financial and Manufacturing modules within Oracle eBusiness Suite. Our Finance department (AR / AP / Accounting) uses it for POs, invoicing, etc. Our Supply Chain team uses the inventory functionality and demand planning. Our sales team uses order management. We also use shipping features.
5 - We have a relatively small in-house staff to support Oracle eBusiness Suite. There are about five people on our internal team. Some of the basic skills required are an understanding of databases, PL/SQL and some functional knowledge of the eBusiness Suite. It is also most helpful to have advanced knowledge of some particular modules of the application. The eBusiness Suite is so vast that it is unlikely to find a single person who is an expert in all areas.
  • Order entry
  • Inventory
  • Financials
  • Sub-ledger accounting allows us to track purchases at a granular level
  • iSupplier functionality allows our suppliers to enter shipment information without have internal access to our eBusiness Suite instance
  • Customizations on various screens allow us to adapt the ways users interact
  • We are looking to expand on our demand planning to better forecast our inventory needs
  • We are considering integrating with Oracle Analytics for advanced reporting needs
Our company is so heavily invested in Oracle, it doesn't make sense for us to switch to another product. And the Oracle eBusiness Suite provides all the functionality we really need from an ERP system. We have integrations with some of Oracle's newer cloud-based products which allows us to extend the functionality of EBS.
