Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Linux

We have Oracle Linux database, WebLogic, and e-business suite hosted on Oracle Linux. It is used across our whole organization in running critical applications. It is robust, easy to manage, and administer with rock-solid stability and very minimal server reboots or performance issues. I would highly recommend Oracle Linux over other operating systems.
  • Easy administration.
  • Stable work, no sudden reboots.
  • Better memory management.
  • GUI could be better.
  • Support for running exe apps.
  • Able to include since package like rlwrap by default with vanilla build.
  • Makes clustering easy so that's positive.
  • Requires huge amount of resources.
  • Some manual intervention needed.
Oracle Linux always comes ahead in my opinion when compared with any form of windows. As a developer, I find it easier to use as it is focused more on command-line capabilities. One issue I have with windows is its not-so-good memory management and stability issues.
When it comes to support for Oracle Linux, the support team is always very proactive and supportive. They have a large repository of data regarding the issues faced by customers and their solutions so they can fix any issues in a very short time. They are highly skilled professionals.

Oracle Linux is specifically very useful in running applications that are very critical in nature, require maximum availability, or have zero or no downtime. These are usually enterprise applications, and these applications (most of them) are developed on Oracle Linux operating system as a base so they obviously perform much better on Oracle Linux compared to other operating systems in the market.
