Overall Satisfaction with Paychex

I've been using the Paychex payroll services for my business since I opened my business over ten years ago. It's been a simple process as I report payroll info every two weeks, info is processed and deposits/checks are processed immediately. I'm notified by email when processing is complete and when checks are mailed.

Pros

  • Processing payroll
  • Back office reports

Cons

  • Reporting of PTO hours paid on payroll stubs
  • Access to specific individuals when I call with a question
  • Better search capability in the back office
  • Big time savings as mentioned earlier. Simplifies all payroll tasks
  • Employees love the self-serve capabilities
  • Paychex is great with compliance. I don't need to give it a second thought.
Positively - if I understand the question, I would say the payroll reports that I provide to my bookkeeper when she is creating my financial documents assist me in my overall business planning.
Overall, I'm able to get the answers I need when I have a question, but there are times when it's challenging to reach a particular person or reach someone who has better knowledge about subject I'm calling about.

While my needs are pretty basic, Payroll is an important part of my business...for any business. I mentioned simplicity being important to me in an earlier answer and this is why I continue to be a Paychex customer. They keep the process of processing payroll simple for me. They've also developed a user-friendly back office system.
Since I've only had experience with the payroll services, that's the only area I can say it is well suited. As a small business owner, I'm pulled in different directions and I'm always looking to simplify my tasks. Paychex does that for me with my payroll needs. I like the ease of looking up everything from an employee's paystub to the quarterly 941s when needed for my work comp audits.
