Overall Satisfaction with Planview PPM Pro

Planview PPM Pro was implemented as our Enterprise Portfolio Tracking Tool to have a central system for all project data, financials, time tracking, and reporting. It is being used by the PMO to tracking incoming requests and manage project data and financials. Our IT and Business Departments track time to projects in the timesheet management module.
  • New request workflow/kanban board helps visualize where new requests are in the process of the quote to cash/request to completion
  • The time tracking tool is tied directly to project tasks for seamless integration of time tracking, estimates, and actuals
  • The reporting capabilities and ease of use has allowed us visibility to data that we never had before
  • The tool is easily configurable by Administrators. We can add fields, change reports, add new dashboards within hours vs. days of trying to track things manually
  • Planview PPM Pro does not fully support agile methodologies from a task and time tracking perspective. It is based on the notion of assigning specific resources to projects and tasks. For fully agile companies, we need to be able to create Teams, with specific roles assigned to each time and/or people assigned to teams, so we can assign the Team and estimate to the task and the data by role will associate. We logged an enhancement with Planview for this.
  • The request and project data should be directly tied together, not via an association, so they can travel the kanban process together and simplify reporting
  • Timesheet alerts should be set by user type, not all or nothing
  • With all requests centralized in a system vs. a spreadsheet, we can track turnaround times on estimates, finance approvals, and project closedown efforts in minutes vs. manual interactions
  • We created customized enterprise risk scoring using formulas that drive a risk number across all projects, this has allowed us to see the largest risks across all projects and escalate to leadership more quickly.

Digital.ai Agility (formerly VersionOne), Microsoft Project, Trello, OneNote
Planview PPM Pro (formerly Innotas) is perfect for waterfall or mostly waterfall shops. If you are an agile shop, you need to implement Lean Kit or will not have the agile capabilities. We had success linking VersionOne to Planview PPM Pro (formerly Innotas) through lean kit but it is a lot of maintenance to keep adding fields, and this does not fully support a feature team link to time tracking.
