Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Proofpoint for a coorporate-wide email gateway both internal and external. Serves as a phishing, email, malware, sandboxing filter.

Pros and Cons

Email filtering rules - Easily write rules to deter and direct emails.
Quarantine - Great ability to quarantine with different formulas as well as a nice interface for end-user maintenance of queues.
Virus and malware filtering.

Could make the GUI interface easier to traverse.

Return on Investment

Lowered the maintenance on quarantine queues.
Lowered the amount of false-positive rates on malware/virus-based emails.

Alternatives Considered

McAfee Email Gateway (Discontinued) and Symantec Data Loss Prevention

I actually chose to replace McAfee Email Gateway with Proofpoint because Proofpoint was able to filter the emails better. We were spending two to three hours a day managing user quarantine queues. With Proofpoint, we were able to lower that time waste to about an hour a week.

Likelihood to Recommend

Proofpoint Email Protection fits really well as an overall email gateway. I think the ability to get very granular with the rules and filtering makes it a great front end to email.
