Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise

We use this software to Invoice customers (typically invoicing out 20-50 invoices per day), Receive goods into inventory for resale, record accounts payable invoices, process payments and receipts, process all financial reporting, payroll, payroll liabilities including Federal payroll taxes. We have 7 users. The biggest problems we have are limits with creating reports that are needed to run day to day operations of our business. Also, some reports do not contain all data in the fields, although the data does exist in the database. This software has not expanded through the years to be geared toward businesses that eventually require a large database. No helpful tools are available that I have found to successfully make remove old data from an archive and create the necessary journal entries for such so that the financial reporting is not altered during the process. We are recently experiencing quite a few errors causing a user to shut down and lose whatever their "work" such as in BILL PAY. Recently, I had an extremely large bill that I was paying and applying multiple credits (1.5 hours worth of work). Right toward the end, I saw a Bill that had the wrong Due Date, so I selected "Go to Bill" from within the Bill Pay screen. When I changed the due date on the bill and hit save, the system crashed and shut down, losing my entire 1.5 hours of work. This has happened several times recently so I assume something has changed with an update that is causing this error. We have never had this problem in the past. There are two things concerning Credits for our customers and also Credits from our vendors that are very lackluster. (1) When we apply for credits on account for our customers, the RECEIVER PAYMENT printout does not show how credits were applied. In fact, it does not reflect credits applied in any capacity. If a customer has a credit of $10 on the account and we accept that credit and use it as payment toward a $10 invoice on the customer's account, then press "PRINT" inside that screen, the printout contains no transactional information at all. It's as if nothing was done (of course the systems show the $10 invoice as paid which is accurate. We need better reporting/printouts for credits and discounts applied to customers' accounts. (2) The second is when applying Vendor credits to our Payable Accounts, it is a super tedious process. For extremely large Vendor accounts, this affects us most. While processing payment on as many as 200 invoices in a month for one Vendor, and as many as 30 credits for that same Vendor, you cannot filter the Bills by the due date, because the credits do not show properly, or at all as there is no "DUE DATE" or "USE BY" date within the credit memo itself. Also, we cannot scroll and quickly select multiple credits to apply to a single Bill or to multiple bills at once. I think the "select" tool in Bill Pay (and using credits) should be much like that in Reconciling a bank account. "Scrolling Selection" rather than only being able to select one single bill at a time would make the process much faster and more user-friendly. Maybe some companies would rather not have this option and it would be a huge asset to have this as an option to set in each user's preferences. The other significant drawback to reporting that hurts our company is INVENTORY REPORTS. To have multiple means of creating inventory reports and heavily filtered cycle counting reports was a tremendous asset to our company and I'm sure many others would highly value this as well.
  • Financial Reports
  • Ability to Setup Personalized Invoices for your Company
  • Ability to download data to Excel
  • Payment Receipt reports showing how Credits were applied to Customer Payment Receipts (Invoices)
  • Easier Method of Selecting Bills and Credits when paying Vendor Bills
  • More options to sort Report Data; currently limited to one field
  • The option to display more data fields in the Deposit Screen.
  • Determine why/correct Reports which do not "list" all data. The data is in the database but certain inventory reporting and Employee Data reporting fail to display all data
  • Prices for QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise are quite high now as compared to a few years ago, and the Help Desk is much more limited and less useful.
  • QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise is easy to learn and has good capabilities for new companies.
We have experienced significant growth in the time we have been users of QuickBooks. For the most part, it has been easy to grow without many pains but we are beginning to experience some drawbacks as our database and needs grow larger.
Nothing unexpected.

I think QuickBooks is very easy to learn for the eager learner. I was able to pick it up quickly and then research and learn how to create reports and download data for more reporting and usage. At that time, QuickBooks had a very useful and highly trained "help desk" available to paying customers of such and these representatives were able to help me through several issues we were facing. There are quite a few "USER PREFERENCES" which is very nice when using the software in a multiple-user setting. If you have or will have a very large database, QuickBooks has not expanded to compete in this area. We are finding as our database grows, some areas are very slow and also we are experiencing more "shutdowns" of the system. Also, particularly in a multiple-user setting, and when a user is in a RETAIL setting invoicing customers as they come in (such as with Tire Stores), some QuickBooks updates shut us down for a lengthy period of time, which we cannot afford during normal business hours. Right now, QuickBooks does not allow you to schedule all updates and there is no advanced notice if the update is a minor update not requiring a shutdown/reboot, nor does it state that all users will be required to install and reboot if one user updates. This has been one of our largest problems with QuickBooks in the past three years.
