Overall Satisfaction with QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise
We use it in a terminal server environment. It is to help with financial and payroll services to our clients who also use the Enterprise version on their end. It creates accountant copy of a company's folder which holds additional details and features than a regular version of QB (QuickBooks) can provide.
Pros
- Provides accountant copy of a company file.
- Provides different sorts of financial reports.
- Help with processing payroll for clients.
Cons
- Auto updates that reset all customized SQL server options.
- Very heavy-ended software that causes occasional delays and latency.
- Resets accesses and authorizations randomly.
- Inefficient in using. Takes way more time than desired.
- Causes access and authorization issues.
- Restricts launching for various reasons.
The program can handle as many new clients as business grows but there are charges to new clients. New charges come in as time goes by such as cost to e-file returns on each individual e-filing. Using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise solely to e-file W2s and 1099s becomes very costly in comparison to many other alternative applications which is actually what we do to avoid the high cost of e-filing wit QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.
As explained in the previous sections, in my experience, it does not add efficiency at all. I believe the fact that QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise has a semi monopoly in this line of software makes it difficult to make higher end decisions to switch to another application. Also, in my experience, the transition to another application has been made very difficult to near impossible by QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.
Thomson Reuters CS Professional Suite is a very good alternative to QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise. It is installed and web-based at the same time, taking a load off the server computing power. I think it also is very much more user friendly. As mentioned, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise makes any such transitions almost impossible so the move has to be a grand one with expectations of lots of data loss.
