Red Hat OpenShift Kubernetes Engine (self-managed)

Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat OpenShift

In Brazil we have a transaction system integrated with our central bank called pix, which allows people to make payments and transfers using unique keys associated with their banking accounts. Red Hat OpenShift is the platform that we chose to sustain this critical workload because of its ease to use, reliability, constant improvement and RedHat support.

Pros

  • Simplified Kubernetes Management
  • Integrated ecosystem with other RedHat tools
  • Constant evolution and improvement of features like the recent addition of AI readiness

Cons

  • More known use cases of ROSA for AWS EKS users to be more confident on migrating workloads
  • Decreased downtime
  • Improved management
  • Increased productivity
Currently our workloads on Red Hat OpenShift are mostly third party solutions, so considering the software development lifecycle we don't use very much of its CI/CD features, for now its more of a runtime platform for us but we have plans to host other applications on the platform soon like our single sign-on solution.
Currently we use Red Hat OpenShift only on our OnPremise environment, we have a plan to make a PoC of ROSA soon hosting our single sign on solution, it's still a work in progress and we already use some other managed Kubernetes solutions so for now it's a niche solution for us
  • Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) and Alibaba Cloud Elastic Compute Service (ECS)

Do you think Red Hat OpenShift delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Red Hat OpenShift's feature set?

Yes

Did Red Hat OpenShift live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Red Hat OpenShift go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Red Hat OpenShift again?

Yes

When you need seamless Kubernetes Management between different cloud providers, or even on premise, Red Hat OpenShift has a great way to make things more transparent, encapsulating the infrastructure specifics so the Kubernetes administration team can focus on the container administration platform, so it fits well in growing business cases that need to scale out quickly and with ease of use and management.
