Overall Satisfaction with S&P Capital IQ

The S&P Capital IQ data and research platform are utilized for on-demand financial data from public companies. The data is critical for benchmarking and other analytics. The platform is also extremely useful in learning about industries, current trends, and outlook, and helps us get up to speed quickly when looking to approach a new prospect with potential solutions.

Pros

  • On-demand reliable financial data either through the platform or through the Excel Plug-In
  • Great user interface, intuitive to use
  • Great help desk function, quick and responsive
  • Excellent auditability of financial data with easy traceback to source documents

Cons

  • Speed of data refresh / platform itself - loading data can sometimes be slow
  • More integration with data visualization tools, and templates with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI)
  • More on-demand trainings for new users who aren't familiar with the platform
  • Public company and market financial data used on virtually all client engagements
  • Ability to easily trace back to source documents allows for robust documentation required for analyses
  • Excel plug in allows for integration into independent analytics performed on virtually all client engagements
Web based platform very intuitive and easy to use. It is simple to navigate and similar to any sort of website. Excel plug in very intuitive as well with built in formula builders. When something is difficult to find or figure out, help desk function is very responsive with help almost always immediately available.
S&P Capital IQ is one of the best value products from a cost / benefit perspective. The Excel add in function is also unrivaled. For accessing public company data on demand (both operational and financial) it is a must have. The other tools are great but tend to be more expensive and don't necessarily integrate as well with Excel.

Best in class tool to source financial data from public companies. Great integration with Excel. Must-have tool for anyone performing financial analysis on a regular basis. Easy to use interface with excellent product support to answer questions about functionality and capabilities. Tool has continued to grow in features over the years and expect to continue in the future.
