Overall Satisfaction with Sage Accounting

We write software that integrates with Sage Accounting products, allowing our customers to use their data in Sage products with our products, and vice versa. This enables our customers to use Sage Accounting to manage their accounting records, while using that data to create payment records and actually send money through our products. After this, it allows those payments to continue being tracked through Sage Accounting, completing the circuit, giving the customers records of the entire process.

Pros

  • Has a fairly robust API for integrating with the online product
  • Has packages available for integrating with files from the desktop application
  • Navigating through Sage Accounting online to find what you're looking for is intuitive and quick.

Cons

  • The packages for integrating with Sage50 desktop application files are not backwards compatible, so we must store many copies in order to support multiple versions of the Sage50 application that our customers use, in case they aren't immediately updating to the latest version at all times.
  • A fair number of our customers refuse to move from our legacy applications, as they require integration with Sage products. With the ability to integrate with Sage Accounting, the number of customers migrating to the modern solutions we provide is steadily increasing.
My interactivity with Sage Accounting is done through testing for our integration, to make sure everything flows as expected. Everything has been easily put together, and even after running through integrations with our own product, coming back to Sage Accounting quickly shows results we were expecting without issue, and without having to hunt around for it. Navigating around, creating entries and viewing reports is all quick at hand.
The first integration we had created for our product was with QuickBooks Online. There was a fair amount of work put in to create this solution, and a huge amount of testing to make sure it works properly.
Once Sage Accounting had an API available for integration, we included this as well, as a fair number of our customers use Sage products.
While there were challenges coming from the difference between product APIs, Sage Accounting was overall easier to implement, and more straightforward with actions and expected outcomes.

My experience comes from the integration and development level, and Sage Accounting has been overall great to work with. The tools provided and support offered have been extremely useful for our implementations, and they continue to update and improve at a quick pace.
Any issues we've encountered with integrations have either been resolved by Sage Accounting through updates, or different methods brought to us from support to handle those issues from a different angle.
