Overall Satisfaction with SAP Analytics Cloud

We implement SAP Analytics Cloud for various clients. It is typically used within the FP&A community for reporting and the planning process. It enables the users to go from high-level KPIs on the dashboards and drill into the underlying numbers that make up the final KPI. It has also enabled organizations to simplify their budgeting and planning process.

Pros

  • Data visualization capabilities
  • SMART insights
  • Collaboration during planning

Cons

  • Data Harmonization capabilities can be improved
  • Business Process Workflows should be added as a feature. Calendar functionality is not enough
  • Excel integration needs to be improved considerably. There are a lot of questions being raised around this.
  • Managing data transformation needs to be improved. The transformations cant be edited once created.
  • New central platform for FP&A
  • Better data transparency and traceability
Lots of features have been added in the last year or so. I feel SAP Analytics Cloud is slowly starting to get to the desired state. But to truly become an enterprise-wide reporting and planning platform, there are integration capabilities and workflows that would need to be added to the product. I hope it gets there soon because it is one of the few tools providing reporting as well as planning capabilities.
  • Product Usability
SAP Analytics Cloud has better integration with SAP systems and has planning capabilities missing from these other tools (except OneStream, a planning tool). The other tools, however, have better integration with Excel, and users find it slightly easier to use. OneStream has the workflow capability all planners need. It also has better capabilities in handling transformations.

SAP Analytics Cloud is awesome for an S/4 ecosystem with simple data models. The visualizations are great and you can set up the planning process quickly for a small user group. Where are stats struggling is when the scenarios become complex in terms of high dimension members, complex to medium complex data harmonization requirements, and a higher number of users requiring a guided planning process.
