Overall Satisfaction with SAP Digital Manufacturing

I leverage SAP Digital Manufacturing (DM) to develop PODs and Logics(Using PPD) for manufacturing sector. This product (SAP DM) has addressed the following use cases
1. Machine connectivity, ie shop floor connections to MES
2. Logic building for automation
3. Integration for SAP ERP and 3rd party DBs
4. POD development for a user interface for shop floor operators using low code- No code
5. Realtime monitoring for shopfloor and OEE using LM and integrated SAC
6. 3rd Party push notification integrations
7. Consuming custom APIs and applications
8. Creating Jobs and Triggers which helps in automations

Pros

  • Automation using triggers and PPDs
  • Shopfloor tracking using asset managements
  • Low Code No Code dev style for POD interface development
  • Intuitive dashboards using SAC

Cons

  • SAP Digital Manufacturing on edge - not implemented yet
  • Visual inspection - product functionality keeps on changing with no clear road map
  • POD Designer - Can be restrictive at times
  • SAC Dashboard - No option to export/import the developed dashboards(as per my understanding)
  • Positive: Improved automation and reduced operator interactions
  • Negative: All data on cloud with no option to have any data on-prem(as of now) affecting GxP industries' compliance
  • Neutral: Training required for shopfloor operators to the SAP DM POD interfaces
As a developer it makes complete sense - All the applications are laid out properly and everything is accessible. But when it comes to segregating the different sets of applications/modules using roles and collections, it becomes confusing and hard to setup(again, in my opinion). There are a lot of roles and collections, some of which is very specific to a use-case/sets of applications. This can be simplified and segregated more appropriately.
I have used and worked on SAP ME/MII. This product(SAP DM) is far better in every way than the older sibling - ME/MII. This is completely cloud based solution which removes the hinderances of procuring and managing an on-prem solution. And as this is a cloud based solution, it also enables a very smooth scalability of the deployment across various plants
