Overall Satisfaction with SAP S/4HANA Cloud

It is a full integrator across several functions, most of them related to the economic or financial impact of the activities of the company. It provided the support to manage one set of data, giving the reliability and consistency required. It ensured data is managed consistently, integrated with other systems.

Pros

  • ensure the consistency of financial and accounting information across functions
  • data management is solid - allowed to deal with data throughout the world
  • it covered all the accounting aspects of the company

Cons

  • update of customisation is cumbersome and complicated
  • creation of new set of rules is quite complex
  • implementation could be long and expensive
  • implementation costs generally overrun the budget (and time)
  • it provides a good standard across the globe - easy knowledge transfer
  • solid internal audit and control features generate an environment that prevent fraud
We used some Oracle modules - they were effective, but SAP is powerful when integration of data is heavily required
It is a valid solution for multinational companies, as it manages pretty well all data updates. For small companies, the SME version of SAP is still complex to implement due to the enormous number of options to customise it.

SAP Adoption

  • Third-party professional services
The chosen company that helped us with the implementation was deloitte. They worked together with our Internal consultants that were selected to
accomplished the Project.
The first actions that we took were to
inform the end users about the whole Project, the scope and their involvement with the different participantes of the Project. Then we ask them to give feedback about
the different actions that we consider were important to take and the key decision in which they could be involved.
Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled - The main lesson that we learned in regards
to change Management was that communication done before and during the Project was very important.

Every user was clearly explained about the different
steps that the company was going to make within the project, in order to avoid uncertainty, stress and anxiety to the
staff.
In regards
to training, we learn that keeping the plan alive was very important. However, we
had to adapt to different changes that we found along the project. These
changes were relevant to the new challenges that arose while with the project
was executed. That being flexible during the project was crucial for the
project.
Once the
final solution was updated and running, we had our consultants to commit on the
continuous update all the different features that SAP could offer on the time
after the project was finished. A small group of expert users we're committed
to verify if they knew updates of releases were relevant to implement and when.
There are
several aspects that can be considered best practises for other companies that are
expecting to go through a project like this. First of all is the support from
top management, then it's a clear plan of communication to the whole
organisation, I'm finally a clear change management policy to cater any
question or doubt from the staff.
We learned that
having a very good and detailed plan for the project is essential. However, you
must have key project members that could react quickly to unforeseen events
during the project and also after the initial rollout. Both, the external
consultants and your internal consultants, must learn to work together, even
under difficult circumstances.

Evaluating SAP S/4HANA Cloud and Competitors

SAP requires
a lot of internal and external resources to complete its successful
implementation. The cloud version requires a deeper understanding of the
different capabilities of the local systems (hardware) and the connection
towards your local IT team. We found several problems on our systems that we
couldn't foresee before the implementation and roll out.
Yes - SAP Was
aimed to replace a software solution that was designed within the company. On
one hand the former system was reliable and 100% customised to our needs. On
the other hand it had serious limitations to integrate near features, connections
and solutions. The business grew in complexity, so they need to have a modern
and complete system was high.
To improve
the evaluation and selection process I recommend to dedicate more time to
verify all the key aspects that SAP will take care of. Generally you plan with
your consultant to spend a number of weeks understanding our needs on the
options that the system has, but we learned that it was not enough and that we
should have spent more time evaluating all the key aspects of our business.
