Overall Satisfaction with SAP Integration Suite
This is our first year integrating the integration suite. Previously, we had Boomi as our middleware. Since making the transition, our organization has better visibility to not only manage existing integrations but also optimize current business processes. For example, we have recently changed benefits providers. This provider has very specific data mapping requirements. The integration suite allows us to leverage our EC environment and, almost seamlessly, ensure concrete data integrity. It also supports the relationship between our organization and the vendor.
Pros
- Better visibility on connections
- Neo and cloud foundry options
- Strengths relations with vendors
- Affordable cost with licensing
Cons
- Integration dashboard
- More clear connector options
- Elimination of time consuming business processes
- Improved data integrity
- Business team visibility
Our organization is undergoing a complete IT transformation. Although some on premise applications will remain, our primary goal is to transition as many applications to the cloud as possible. There may be a time, as some on premise applications are tied to core business processes, that a cloud to on premise integration is made. I’m happy to know this is possible - our organization is just not there yet.
Our organization is prioritizing data driven decision making. The use of predict analytics is most definitely something we intend to leverage. It, unfortunately, is a weakness received today by our Boomi middleware. And by weakness I mean we simply do not have. Now having integration suite, our executive team has substantially more visibility on these integrations. For example, an integration exists between our organization and a third party vendor that supports company surveys. Integration suite allows us to not only get our executives the survey data but also provide them predictive analytics so we can better prepare for employee engagement and retention, talent management, etc.
Transition to BTP and S/4 HANA, transforms our Finance business process. Today, we are on ECC with Boomi middleware with an underlying SFTP for some file transfers. We, unfortunately, rely on manual processes to transfer files. Secure files with proprietary information at that. We selected integration suite to have one (and only one) integration platform that is fully integrated with our other SAP applications across the enterprise.

SAP Integration Suite Feature Ratings
Using SAP Integration Suite
15 - The key business function for SAP integration suite surrounds our SAP HCM platform. Primarily, Employee Central and Payroll modules. We also use SAP HCM as a connector to our survey tool (WorkTango), benefits enrollment provider (PlanSource), benefits vendor (Merrill Lynch), etc. These business functions are primarily composed of inbound and outbound traffic.
3 - We have in-house and managed services support for SAP Integration Suite. Again, primarily in our SAP HCM space on Employee Central and Payroll business functions. The types of people required to support SAP Integration Suite are analytical, programmatic, and direct. We need people on our team to be detail oriented requirements takers that understand the product just as much as they understand the solution. That way, they can drive the best outcome for the business.
- SAP Employee Central to Benefits Enrollment & Other 3rd Party
- SAP Employee Central to In-House Active Directory
- SAP Payroll to 3rd Party Regulatory Agencies
- In-House SAP Integrations to other applications to support business functions as necessary (Finance)
- SAP Integration Suite drives innovative ways to recognize people by being the middleware between our HCM and the 3rd party recognition provider.
- We plan to use SAP Integration Suite for other SAP applications in our order management, asset management, and order to cash space.
Evaluating SAP Integration Suite and Competitors
Yes - We used Dell Boomi. Historically, this was our middleware for years. While an okay tool, it did not allow all necessary functionality to support the business need. We replaced Dell Boomi primarily due to cost, scope of the business's requests, and, ultimately, made the decision to drive innovation through an integrated platform.
- Cloud Solutions
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
The single most important factors for us is ease of use. We leverage manage services from a development perspective; however, we also do not feel you have to be an integration consultant to feel comfortable using the tool. Deployment of net new and maintenance of existing integrations are also relatively straightforward given how our data architecture it set up.
Scope, Impact, and Cost were the main factors in our decision-making process. One evaluation I would include would be scalability. Questions I often ask myself include "If our workforce exponentially grows due to an acquisition, can our current architecture support that need?" or "If we were to expand our international footprint, what sort of regulatory/compliance concerns do we need to be made aware of from a data perspective."
SAP Integration Suite Support

Yes. We purchased premium support so we could have direct access to troubleshoot issues in real time. Consequences of not having premium support would delay our key business process and, in turn, may have serious complications. So far, HR and Payroll have noticed a significant increase in our support service on high profile issues.
Yes. For months, we were attempting to set up an outbound integration via API. Unfortunately, on either end the connection did not work. Our IT and the vendor IT were stumped. When opening a ticket with SAP, they quickly agreed to hop on a call. This call lasted 1-hour. In that hour, SAP support (1) identified the issue, (2) provided a root cause analysis, (3) gave us a document outlining what we could do going forward to ensure this does not happen again, and (4) followed up with us later to ensure no issue persisted. That is truly exceptional service that took an 8-week frustration between the in-house and 3rd party vendor down to an hour conversation with SAP experts.
