Overall Satisfaction with Schoology

Schoology is Culver Academies' LMS. We use it for more than just courses, though. It has become the go-to tool for managing athletic teams, dorms/barracks, student clubs, spiritual life services, faculty professional development, resource sharing, and campus-wide communication.
  • Ability to re-use materials year-to-year.
  • Easy to customize the organization of your materials.
  • More than a storage repository - great interactive features such as discussions and ability to record video/audio.
  • Great ability to personalize grading setups - creation of custom grading scales, rubrics, and mastery learning objectives.
  • Schoology has made many improvements in the 5 years I've used it.
  • One area that needs work is the calendar feature. This is not as robust as their other elements.
  • Schoology does allow rubric creation, and they are flexible with number of criteria, scales used, etc. But the creation tool is a bit clunky.
  • Schoology has great question types for assessment, but it would be nice if it were easier to import questions from external sources.
  • Using Schoology has allowed our students to have ONE place to see their homework. That was our initial reason for choosing an LMS.
  • More than just helping keep students organized, Schoology has become the ONE place for faculty to go to find important documents.
  • Because students and faculty are already "there" in Schoology, it is also an effective medium for communicating information to large groups - all students, all faculty, the whole campus...
We were experiencing a lot of downtime with Moodle, so made the decision to switch to Schoology. It was a great move.
I really think Schoology is an excellent LMS.

Using Schoology

900 - 800 students, 100 faculty
3 - Schoology is very straightforward to use. I am the primary in-house support person, and my main training to do so has been using the program myself and using Schoology's extensive online tip-sheets, FAQs, and videos. I have attended their annual conferences ( they are both enjoyable and informative). I do not consider myself to be particularly knowledgeable about technology, and I have been able to answer most of the questions that are brought to me. Anything that has been beyond my ability, the Schoology support folks have been able to help with.
  • Teachers are required to post homework assignments on Schoology.
  • Counselors are able to view students' upcoming and overdue work.
  • Students can submit work electronically, reducing our paper usage quite a bit.
  • Athletic teams use Schoology to take attendance, post reminders, and even use the quizzing feature to collect information like T-shirt sizes.
  • The dorms use Schoology to administer safety quizzes (students must pass before being allowed to use the kitchen equipment).
  • Spiritual Life uses Schoology for their make-up services (if a student has to miss regular service, they are required to make it up, in order to fulfill their obligation).
  • We are looking at how we could use Schoology for the library.
It works. Well.
