Overall Satisfaction with Snagit
I use Snagit continually, every day. I use it to capture screenshots and insert them into other documents. Often, the screenshot is too large, so it has to be reduced or trimmed, which is quick and easy to do with Snagit. Also, if there's wasted space in the screenshot, either horizontally or vertically, Snagit can easily remove it and seamlessly join the portion above to the portion below. Also, text can be added, shapes, highlights, outlines and many other options can be added before moving the finished product to the desired document.
Pros
- Captures screenshots, full page, portions of page or larger than the current page, by scrolling.
- Allows manipulation of the screenshot captured by trimming or cutting out areas that are not needed.
- Allows editing of the image with text, shapes, highlights, borders, etc.
Cons
- They could make more hotkeys available. We have a hot key for capture, in the manner it's currently set. Adding another hot key for scrolling capture would be great.
- Snagit saves what it captures in .snagx format. It would be nice if we could set the format of the captured image, like .jpg or .docx etc.
- If the above comes about, it would be nice to have a hot key to set the capture format before we press the hot key for the actual capture.
- Snagit saves incredible amounts of time allowing me to quickly and easily manipulate screenshots into the readable display of the information that needs to be communicated.
- The alternative is taking multiple screenshots of the same area to piece together items that Snagit can produce by simple editing. Very costly, and substandard results, before we had Snagit.
- Because Snagit is easy to understand, the processes we set up are easily teachable and duplicatable.
- Adobe Acrobat and GIMP
Snagit takes an entirely different approach to saving, editing, and manipulating screenshots. Adobe is fine for .pdf documents, but it's challenging to use, and if it has the features Snagit has, I can't find them. GIMP is suitable for working with certain images, but it doesn't address all the problems Snagit easily solves.
