Overall Satisfaction with Snowflake

It is used by Data teams across different departments of the company for compute purposes.
  • On demand and instant spin up of compute instances is fantastic
  • I like the browser based tabs which save queries
  • Easy connection to Python and BI tools
  • SQL editor can be better with autocomplete functions
  • Saved a lot of money when we moved from Redshift (on demand clusters)
  • Saved time thanks to instant on demand compute instances
  • Dont have to worry about cluster setup like in Redshift
More flexible and faster compared to Redshift, more functionality compared to BigQuery e.g. - per minute billing, instant spin up of warehouse. Overall, the cost and time savings swayed us in favor of Snowflake.
Its easy to use, but will benefit from a better SQL editor.
Snowflake is well suited for performing data ETL when data is stored in AWS S3 and one needs fine control over instance costs.

It is less appropriate to connect directly to a BI tool, as it may be costly to keep warehouses running.
