Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Database Performance Analyzer

We use it across our department to monitor our database landscape. We have different flavors of databases across our landscape, and SolarWinds for years has been an important part of the strategy for our monitoring solutions for the database tier across the landscape. It is very intuitive and quite easy to implement.
  • Immediate bottlenecks on the database tier.
  • Performance tuning.
  • Historical reports.
  • More details around the specific alerts which are raised on the console should be considered.
  • More information from a host layer monitoring could be handy as well.
  • A single layout for the report for all the different instances of DPA would be really handy. It is just tedious to go granular for all the instances across the landscape.
  • Has definitely had a positive impact. It is one stop for all database monitoring for our global teams to identify any potentials issues or bottlenecks.
  • Very intuitive, so do not really have to spend too much time training people to use this tool.
We had some customer promotions going on and the database was suffering from blocking sessions a lot during these promotions. DPA helped to pick these quickly and these were raised with the concerned teams to ensure that this can be handled well in time to ensure minimal impact to the business.
These are quite handy in terms of picking up the queries that can be addressed immediately. Also, because of the intuitive design, most of the time even the resources who are not really experienced with the database performance tuning aspects can use the tool to suggest improvements. This would not require the Senior resources on the team to be involved with such cases all the time, and that helps strategically for the business.
  • SolarWinds Network Bandwidth Analyzer
SolarWinds is really helpful for our network engineers to figure out any network related issues which could be impacting the customers.
We have not used that functionality too much in our set up.
yes, we have another platform which is offered on Azure and we have been able to integrate our solutions with Solarwinds to gain deep insights into any performance issues. We were already equipped with using Solarwinds to gain deep performance insights using Solarwinds, so it was very helpful when we were able to extend it for the new platform.
SolarWinds is much more intuitive and really helpful as a starting point for our monitoring purposes.
Even the junior level colleagues can really make sense of the systems which could be facing any potential issues and act accordingly. It also provides some guidance towards what potentially is the problem, which helps to take further actions too. Oracle EM is obviously built with more features and can do much more, but needs a level of expertise and understanding to basically use it across the landscape.
Very intuitive and easy for operations organizations to ensure that any symptoms which could lead to performance concerns on the database tier can be easily identified and looked at.
To ensure these issues can be given highest priority as and when any performance bottlenecks arise, the simple layout provided with the tool is really effective.
