Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds IP Address Manager

IP Manager helps us manage our subnets and IP requests across the organization. We have added all of our onprem subnets, along with custom properties to help us identified location, role, geolocation, and facility. These custom properties then automatically populate on down to the node which consumes an IP in the subnet. Along with organizing our environment, it helps us prevent IP conflicts.
  • Subnet identification and management
  • IP management, organization, and conflict prevention
  • Lack of support for Azure virtual networks
  • Needs full integration with other Solarwinds\Orion modules
  • Provides an overall convenience for managing subnets in one location
  • Provides IP address management for all parts of the IT department to see and use
  • Allows for Self service of IP allocation, freeing up engineers from low level tasks
Systems Center Operation Manager. SCOM is a nightmare to use for IP and Subnet Management. I was very happy when we could start using IPAM for our needs.
Sadly, I find Solarwinds technical support some of the worst I've ever had to deal with. In fact, the customer support is so bad that I have considered finding a different product to use. Don't get me wrong, the software is powerful, but the support is just that bad. If it wasn't for THWACK, which is not as good as it used to be, then I probably wouldn't be a Solarwinds customer. It's a very frustrating position to be in - Awesome software, extremely poorly supported to the point I'm not using it to its fullest potential.

Yes

No

Yes

Would you buy SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) again?

Yes

IP Address Manager works great for traditional tasks for subnet and IP management. The DHCP and DNS management works pretty well too and is useful. I find it is severely lacking in cloud services support, especially Azure. I have yet to receive clear information on how to use IPAM for Azure Virtual Networks.
