Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM)

We are using SolarWinds IPAM for IP Address Management as well as IP Allocation and De-Allocation automation via orchestration tools such as Ansible, Terraform etc. Solarwinds IPAM is helping us to manage Subnets and automating the IP Management process. With the help of Solarwinds IPAM API operations we update DNS records, A Records, Manage IP Status, etc.
  • IP Management.
  • Subnet Grouping.
  • IP Management Automation using Automation tools such as Ansible.
  • add more IP Management vendors such as Bluecat
  • Easy integration with Service Now
  • DNS and DHCP Management additional security layer or a warning so that new users know that changes can impact their production environment
  • IPAM has made our IP allocation process automated and smooth.
  • Different team used to use Spread Sheet which have been gone now.
  • We are able to predict well in advance if any new Subnet is required or existing subnet is going to exhaust.
We are much comfortable in using SolarWinds over other IP Management tools such as Evolve IP or Efficient IP, since SolarWinds IPAM is not just good in IP Management, Dashboard, DNS and DHCP management as Automation, but the fact is we use other SolarWinds modules such as npm, SAM, VMAN, etc., and hence using IPAM not just helps in what is expected out the tool, but it requires less efforts in maintaining other tool[s] and resources for the same.
We have not got much deals on SolarWinds IPAM yet since we did not face any complex issues which could not be resolved on our own. However above rating is not just based on IPAM, but overall SolarWinds support which is, sad to say, deteriorating day by day since support engineers do not know much being new in the system. We expect support engineers to know everything on very first place which is not the case now.
SolarWinds IPAM is like what SolarWinds itself says, i.e. easy to use and simple. SolarWinds has really made their orion and non-orion platform products so simple that any newbie can give a try and make the best use out of it. I learned SolarWinds IPAM by myself in a POC environment, and not just IPAM but other modules and now I own 6 certifications. You see how easy to use this product is.
SolarWinds IPAM is well suited for requirements such as - Subnet Management, IP Management, IP Request requirements, DNS and DHCP Management. Since then API has evolved within SolarWinds and specially in IPAM module automation, things have become easy and that has increased the value of SolarWinds IPAM module. However few more changes would be required such pulling more information from DNS and DHCP server such as Gateway information, Host Mac Address and then integration with npm Discovery.
