Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM)

We use NPM for monitoring the up/down status of all of our Cisco switches/router (350 devices). We use it to monitor the bandwidth usage of all of the critical ports (server ports, uplinks, Internet links...). We also use it to monitor stack ports for stack switches. We get email notifications on all up/down statuses.
  • Great for reporting (email notification) up/down status of network devices.
  • Great to see status of stack ports in case 1 switch in a stack is down.
  • It is critical to see bandwidth usage and NPM does it well.
  • Not really anything. It does what we need.
  • Our network is very stable, part of that is because NPM helps us see issues that we would never know about.
  • You cannot have a large network without SolarWinds NPM to help having visibility into your network.
SolarWinds is so easy to set up and to use. The alerting is better. It is a much cheaper product. I used Cisco Prime, and still do for wireless, for years but Cisco's Licensing is awful. We had it for all of our Cisco devices and we decided to drop it.
NPM makes my team proactive instead of reactive. We have 30 locations that we monitor and could not live without NPM.

SolarWinds NPM Premier Support

Using SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM)

7 - Two groups in our organization uses NPM, the network group and the server group.
2 - We have one person from the network group and one person from the server group that manages NPM. The reality is one person could support it but we made the decision to do it together. You do have to have basic server knowledge to load updates and monitoring the system. It is a very easy product to administer. Plus SolarWinds that some really good training tools.
  • Honest from the network side it does everything that you could imagine that it would do.
  • I am going to try to set up and the the NetPath services for our remote connections to see if it is a benefit.
  • The server group is going to continue adding server things into it. They are still in the learning process.
We've had SolarWinds for over 15 years and can't imagine trying to manage the network without it. The price for support is reasonable for what we get. They continue improving the product so it is a value for us. Plus they have improved updating the product a lot. It is so easy now to update.
