Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor

SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor helps monitor core switch performance and bandwidth monitoring.

Pros

  • Good technical support
  • Easy to use graphical interface

Cons

  • Better support for HPE Procurve/Aruba equipment
  • Flexibility to integrate with other monitoring software.
  • Not much improvement over other SNMP monitoring tools we used before.
  • HPE Intelligent Management Center (IMC)
HPE Intelligent Management Center (IMC) is better suited for networks with HP Procurve/Aruba switches. SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor does not provide the same functionality that IMC has. The network maps in IMC are more accurate and the backup configuration feature is a plus, which is a separate purchase from SolarWinds (Engineer Toolset). The licensing model is also better since it is per device and not per port like with SolarWinds NPM.
More ideal for mid-sized to large enterprises with Cisco equipment. The license model is not ideal for small businesses or non-profits with smaller budgets.
